Jon Bruning was elected
Nebraska’s 31st Attorney General in
2002 with 66 percent of the vote, the largest
margin of victory among Attorneys General in the
country that year. He’s the youngest Attorney
General in the United States and the youngest in
Nebraska history. He previously served six
years as a state senator in the Nebraska
Legislature.
A fifth-generation
Nebraskan, he carries a reputation as an
aggressive, effective leader in the fight
against crime. Bruning has worked tirelessly to
help protect Nebraska’s children from sexual
predators through prosecution, education and by
traveling the state speaking to young people.
Bruning has also worked to
stem the tide of methamphetamine in Nebraska
communities. He successfully worked with
legislators to increase penalties for meth
traffickers and manufacturers and to protect
children from exposure to this dangerous drug.
He’s known for his efforts
to ensure the law applies equally to everyone.
His reputation for appealing excessively lenient
sentences, combined with his steadfast
prosecution of elected officials, has earned him
a reputation as “the People’s lawyer.”
Bruning is chairman of the
Nebraska Crime Commission and serves on the
Nebraska Board of Pardons.
He received both his
undergraduate and law degrees from the
University of Nebraska. Bruning and his wife
Deonne, have two children, Lauren, age 7, and
Jack, age 5. |
